Summer does not necessarily mean taking it easy and having time off from dance. Instead several of our academy students took advantage of summer study in order to hone their skills, with extra time to focus completely on training. While many students participated in our own summer intensive and ongoing maintenance classes, others have gone off to study throughout the US, gaining new perspectives in dance and in life. Here are some of the places they’ve been dancing long and hard:

-Antonio Carnell, Oregon Ballet Theatre, Portland, OR

-Mari Field – Chicago Ballet School, Chicago, IL

-Isabella Herman, College of Southern Idaho, Twin Falls, ID

-Lydia Herman – Chautauqua Institution, Chautauqua, NY

-Jenavieve Hernandez, College of Southern Idaho, Twin Falls, ID

-Catherina Magdich – The Jillana School, Taos, NM

-Morgan Phillips, Joffrey Ballet School, San Francisco, CA

-Abbey Ritter, Oregon Ballet Theatre, Portland, OR

-Kendall Smith – Ballet West, Salt Lake City, UT

-Cristina Zimmerman – Boston Ballet School, Boston, MA

As we launch into our 2014-2015 academic year, Ballet Idaho Academy is delighted to share some highlights!

Back by popular demand, our Student Choreography Workshop will expand this year to include more sessions and more faculty mentoring. Students in level 4+ are welcome to come experiment with the tools of dance composition, explore expressive movement through improvisation and create dances. These workshops will culminate in a Choreography Showcase in late February open to the public.

Level 7 Curriculum adds Partnering Class! Advanced Students will have the opportunity to learn valuable techniques in partnering throughout the year under the direction of Jason Hartley.

Ballet Idaho Academy welcomes 3 new faculty members! Elizabeth Keller, formerly of TMP and with a wealth of teaching experience will be teaching ballet in our Preparatory and Pre-professional divisions. We’re excited to have Hannah Dunlop returning this year and teaching in our Children’s Division after spending a year up in Moscow. After substituting for the past several years, we are pleased to welcome Mhari Wilson as a permanent instructor at our West location!
Ballet Idaho Academy is looking forward to a fabulous academic year!
