Elizabeth Kanning
Soloist

Originally from Seattle, Washington, Elizabeth began studying ballet with Jill Adomaitis before finishing her training at Pacific Northwest Ballet School. She then  joined the second company of Oregon Ballet Theatre under the direction of Kevin Irving, Anthony Jones, and Lisa Sundstrom. At OBT, she had the opportunity to perform with the main company while also performing soloist and principal roles in OBT 2’s outreach shows for the Portland community.

Prior to joining Ballet Idaho, Elizabeth danced professionally with Ballet Austin and Ballet Tucson. Over the years she has had the joy of performing soloist roles in Christopher Wheeldon’s Five Movements and Three Repeats, George Balanchine’s Serenade, Walpurgisnacht, Valse Fantasie and Concerto Barocco, Thang Dao’s Quiet Imprint, Stephen Mills’ Giselle and Swan Lake, and Jennifer Hart’s Murmurations. During her time at Ballet Austin, Elizabeth also had the opportunity to teach in the Ballet Austin Academy and the Butler Community School. She taught ballet, pointe and conditioning classes for students ranging from 5 year olds to adults.

Since joining Ballet Idaho in 2022, Elizabeth has been happy to make Boise her new ballet home and perform for the community. Some highlights include Lar Lubovitch’s Concerto 622, Balanchine’s Divertimento No. 15, Danielle Rowe’s Chaminade, and the Pas de Trois, Neapolitan, and Little Swans in Swan Lake.

Additionally, Elizabeth has enjoyed spending her summers dancing in intensives with NW Dance Project, DanceWorks Chicago, and The School at Jacob’s Pillow where she has had the chance to perform works by Ihsan Rustem, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, and Jennifer Archibald. Most recently, she joined the artists of the National Choreographer’s Initiative to perform new works by Carrie Ruth Trumbo and Kristopher Estes-Brown.
