Justin Hughes
Soloist

Justin began his training with Inland Pacific Ballet under Victoria Koenig and Kevin Myers. He continued his dance education at the Pennsylvania Academy of Ballet under John White and Margarita de Saa in their pre-professional society, at the School of Oregon Ballet Theatre under Christopher Stowell and Damara Bennett, and at The Rock School for Dance Education under Bo and Stephanie Spassoff. In college Justin had the honor of dancing Little Improvisations by Antony Tudor for Mr. Tudor’s centennial production, commissioned by the Tudor trust and set by Amanda McKerrow. He also achieved top 10 in triple jump and top 3 in pole vault for Principia College, while attaining a Bachelor of Science in Physics and a Minor in Mathematics. After college, he was part of Cincinnati Ballet’s Second Company before coming to Idaho, which he is happy to call home. He is very grateful to Peter Anastos for giving him grand opportunities and lead roles as a brand new company member, and to Garrett Anderson for continuing to help him, and the company, grow to reach new heights of excellence in the world of Classical Art.

Some of his favorite roles include Don Jose in Ricardo Amarante’s Carmen, the prince in both Edwaard Liang’s Cinderella and Bruce Wells’ Beauty and the Beast, Summer in Daniel Ojeda’s This Mortals Mosaic, Baron Von Rothbart in Peter Anastos’ Swan Lake, the Rat King in Peter Anastos’ The Nutcracker and Nana the dog in Peter Anastos’ Peter Pan.  Justin has also enjoyed featured roles in contemporary works such as Danielle Rowe’s Dreamland and in Penny Saunders’ Berceuse.

This is his ninth season with Ballet Idaho.

Generously sponsored for the 2022.23 season by Kim Wegener in memory of Bill Wegener and Jeff & Jo-Anne Smith.
