In this program, we take a look inward to see what our own Ballet Idaho dancers and artistic staff create. Featuring completely new inventions, we explore the personal and uniquely creative voice of Ballet Idaho, from the inside out. We experiment with new ideas, drawing from the intimate knowledge of one another, born out of our shared experience in the studio and on stage. In a series of episodic work, we will enjoy the innovations of our company dancers and artistic staff, in an evening of new choreography.
NewDance:Inside View features choreography from:
Company Dancer Daniel Ojeda – A Great, Unbridgeable Distance is a conversation about mental illness, its stigmatization and treatment.
Company Dancer Cydney Covert – Retrograde explores the idea of letting go and moving on.
Company Dancer Nathan Powell – Suite is a pleasant, flowing piece that transports you through the beauty of classical ballet.
Rehearsal Director Anne Mueller – At Dusk is a playful and light-hearted piece about the adventures had as dusk appears.
Artistic Director Garrett Anderson – Small Things First explores the ideas of groups and divergence from groups – how a person can sometimes be “alone” in a group, or “surrounded” by one person.
We open our season with a series of intimate and powerful works from choreographers that have come from all over the country to share their exciting work with Boise. NewDance: Form & Concept explores dance in a variety of conceptual approaches from fun and quirky to dark and evocative and explores themes of love, anxiety, war, and realism.
