Gregory Smith

Gregory Smith brings to Ballet Idaho more than three decades of ballet and nonprofit arts leadership experience. He discovered ballet while a pre-med student and, while initially performing and teaching, he discovered that he was much better suited to the administrative side of arts endeavors.  He was the founding Director of Pacific Ballet Theatre – a precursor of Oregon Ballet Theatre in Portland; and the co-founder and Executive Director of Ballet Magnificat in Jackson, MS.  While in Mississippi, he also served as the Production Manager for the first three iterations of the USA International Ballet Competition and his choreography was performed at one of those competitions by Silver Medalist Kathy Thibodeaux.

Subsequently, he has served as Executive Director of the Ventura Chamber Music Festival, the Casa Romantica Cultural Center, and the Sacramento Ballet (all in California), as well as the Firehouse Center for the Arts (Newburyport, MA) and the Nordic Northwest Scandinavian heritage center (Portland, OR).

Though he has developed an appreciation of the wide impacts that all of the arts can make on an individual, a family and a community, his first love is and always will be dance and is excited to be joining the team at Ballet Idaho.
