Health Update for all Ballet Idaho Academy Students

March 27th, 2020

Greetings BIA dance family,

Our faculty and staff have truly missed having all of you fill our halls and studios these past couple of weeks! We hope you are staying well during this time. Due to the ongoing uncertainty, we have decided to cancel the May recitals.  Your safety and community health continue to be our guiding principle, so regardless of when and if the studios reopen, we want to continue to avoid events with large gatherings.

These past couple of weeks have been an exciting opportunity to explore ways to adapt in order to continue to learn, teach and experience dance together. Our goal for the immediate future is to convert to virtual training. This will keep students active and dancing at home while at the same time support our faculty by keeping them employed. We hope you will join us in this new venture. Through a mix of virtual platforms, students will continue lessons, be able to engage with their instructors, and have some special guest appearances as well. Assigned readings, video viewing, and other dance related activities will be integrated to enhance student learning at home.

Following the lead from dance schools across the country, we believe this is an exciting alternative for our academy until things return to normal. We’ve experimented with facebook live, pre-filmed classes, as well as Zoom, where instructors can actually interact with students and provide corrections. While all of these have proven viable, we are refining our process and learning how we can deliver our teaching for the best experience possible, and we value your continued feedback.

While it is impossible to predict what will be possible, we will certainly keep in communication as we better understand how long this period of isolation will last. As we follow the progress, we continue to look at other options as well, such as extending into June or running a summer semester.  As always the safety and well being of our community is paramount. For now, we invite you to join us in this new venture of virtual dancing.

Here is just a sneak peak of our filmed virtual instruction for the lower levels with Miss Carlene and Miss Sarah.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Ballet Idaho Academy scholarships are awarded to both new and continuing students levels 4 through 7 upon the basis of dance potential and financial need. Scholarships require an enormous commitment and exemplary behavior on the part of the student and adherence to all scholarship contract requirements. Current Ballet Idaho Academy students are also evaluated on prior classroom performance, attendance and behavior. Scholarship award decisions are made solely by the Ballet Idaho Academy staff.

Throughout the year the academy is involved in various events that add to the success of the academy. In order to increase our pool of volunteers for these events and as a component of the scholarship commitment, we request that parents of all scholarship students volunteer for 1 – 2 academy events in the academic year. One of these events must include our Academy Holiday Party or our Year-End Reception.

Scholarship Auditions are held each spring for the upcoming year. Please see the current Academy calendar for dates and contact the Academy Administrator for application information: (208)343-0556, X 232.

Financial Aid: Students may be considered for financial aid of up to 1/2 tuition. Please contact the Academy Administrator for application information: (208) 343-0556 × 232
