Jonathan Harris is based out of Wyoming, but he began studying ballet in his hometown of Dallas, Texas, under Thom Clower, Jason Fowler, and the dedicated staff of the Dallas Ballet Center. In high school, he finished his training with Jock Soto, Peter Frame, and Susan Pilarre at the School of American Ballet. There he was able to perform George Balanchine’s Cortège Hongrois and Le Tombeau de Couperin in SAB’s annual Workshop Performances.
Upon graduation, Jonathan spent a year as a trainee with The Washington Ballet followed by a season with BalletMet 2 in Columbus, Ohio. In 2015, his professional career began by dancing with Sacramento Ballet for four seasons, under Ron & Carinne Cunningham then Amy Seiwert. In 2019, Jonathan moved back to Ohio to perform with Dayton Ballet for four seasons under Karen Russo Burke.
Over the course of 400+ performances, Jonathan has enjoyed a diverse performance career. His performance highlights including; George Balanchine’s Tarantella and Donizetti Variations, and a large variety of ballets by Septime Webre, Amy Seiwert, Stephen Mills, Ma Cong, Penny Saunders, Gerald Arpino, Adam Hougland, Val Caniparoli, Jennifer Sydor, and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa. He has also participated in multiple sessions of National Choreographer’s Initiative, Capital Dance Project, and Dayton Dance Initiative where he has enjoyed creating original roles by Alex Ketley, Julia Feldman, Christopher Nachtrab, Quentin Sledge and Elizabeth Ramsey.
With Ballet Idaho, Jonathan has had the opportunity to perform Sugar Plum Cavelier, Nutcracker, and Nougat in The Nutcracker. He has also enjoyed taking to the stage in Alejandro Cerrudo’s Extremely Close, Joseph Hernandez’s I Lost My Love, and Johan Inger’s Walking Mad where he donned his favorite western wear, black cowboy boots. This summer he was honored to perform in Daniel Ojeda’s send-off production BY&BYE: An Unsustainable Art Show, dancing in Ojeda’s celebrated pieces Persona and Viewers Like You.
Jonathan is excited to be performing closer to his family in the West. As an amateur road cyclist, he takes full advantage of the outdoor recreation and endurance communities here in Boise.
This is Jonathan’s second season with Ballet Idaho.
