Mia Tureson was born in Layton, Utah, where she began her ballet training with LaRae’s Dance Unlimited. At the age of 8, she began performing in Willam Christensen’s The Nutcracker with Ballet West. In 2017 she was invited to join their Professional Training Division, where later she was awarded a full scholarship under the name of Bruce Marks. There, she performed lead roles in Ballet West Academy’s Swan Lake, Don Quixote, Sleeping Beauty, and Coppelia, along with performing in many of Balanchine’s works such as Western Symphony, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Walpurgisnacht. She also performed in Ballet West’s company productions including Swan Lake, Cinderella, Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Nutcracker. Mia continued her education at acclaimed summer intensives such as Pacific Northwest Ballet, Oklahoma City Ballet, and Ballet West.
After graduating high school Mia joined Ballet Idaho’s Trainee Program, where she had the opportunity to perform in many company productions including Peter Anastos’ The Nutcracker, Balanchine’s Serenade, Garrett Anderson and Anne Mueller’s Swan Lake, and Joseph Hernandez’s I Lost My Love. Within the trainee program, Mia enjoyed working with Penny Saunders, Glenn Egerton, Joanna Berman, Quinn Wharton, Meredith Webster, and Brett Perry. In addition to dancing, Mia also works in Ballet Idaho’s costume shop assisting in costume production and maintenance.
This will be Mia’s first season with the company.
